The history of Corbels

Most modern corbels are simple in design, but they in fact have a very complex history. Many old corbels were carved in the image of animals, people, or foliage. Although mostly decorative in nature, they sometimes can be and are used as extra structural support. If you travel to older, more architectural portions of the world, the chances are you will see many corbels.
